TERM AND CONDITIONS :

The contest is opened to everyone as you able to pass the beverage cartons to the organizing committees within 20th Feb to 24th Feb.
The contest will be started on 13th Jan 2012 and end on 24th Feb 2012. All the beverage cartons must be submitted on 24th Feb 2012. Place of the submission of the beverage cartons will be informed later.
Grand prize will be awarded to participant who has collected the most amounts of the beverage cartons and 10 mystery gifts will be awarded to next ten winners.
Winners will be notified via MIRACLE by AIESEC UPM fan page on 1st Mac 2012.
Prizes are not exchangeable with cash.
MIRACLE by AIESEC UPM reserves the right to make any changes to the contest rules at any time without prior notification and reserve the right to replace any prize with another of up to the equivalent value without notice.

How does AIESEC differ from other providers of internships?

AIESEC does not define itself as provider of internships only. Rather, AIESEC offers you many different opportunities to explore and develop your potential. Although an internship abroad is an essential part of the experience you can gain in AIESEC, it is closely linked to other experiences rather than separated from them. Those who only want to do an internship to develop professionally will most probably find a more suitable offer elsewhere.

What does the AIESEC Go Exchange! Program offer?

The AIESEC Go Exchange! Program offers you the possibility to have an intense cultural experience in one of its 107 member countries. Concretely, AIESEC in Malaysia prepares you for the internship, while the section in the host country helps you apply for visa and work permit and organizes your accommodation. In addition, they take care of you as soon as you are there, make you familiar with their culture and organize events where you get to know other interns.

What is the process of my internship ?

1) Application

2) Assessment – An interview session to ensure that candidate has the competencies and right mindset to go for an exchange.

3) Preparation for Exchange – This includes:

Induction – to assist candidates in understanding about AIESEC, setting goals for their AIESEC experience, connecting to the AIESEC network as well as widening candidates world view.
Matching – the process of looking for a suitable internship according to the candidate’s background and preferences.
Outgoing preparation seminar – to prepare candidates for their exchange by setting proper expectations and helping the candidate to learn how to reduce their culture shock in an unfamiliar culture or situation.
Involvement in AIESEC activities – to enhance candidate’s competencies to go on an exchange and to get a better understanding about AIESEC and AIESEC in Malaysia as candidates will be ambassadors of AIESEC in Malaysia while on an exchange.
Visa preparation – AIESEC will be guiding the candidate on the relevant steps to apply for visa (if needed).

4) Go Exchange!

5) Re-integration – Assist exchange participant to capture the learning and outcome of the exchange experience. Reverse culture shock and re-integrate the exchange participant to Malaysia. Exchange participant may choose to have further involvement in AIESEC.

When can I sign up for Go Exchange! program?

Go Exchange! program enrollment is all year round. However, at different period of time, there will be different opportunities in different countries. It is advisable to apply at least 4 months prior to internship period for Go Exchange! *Graduate Special* and 2 months prior to internship for issue-based program.

What does AIESEC NOT offer?

AIESEC does not provide internships, which will:
• Provide you with a very high salary – all interns get an allowance high enough to cover the cost of living in particular country; -support you in getting permanent residence in host country.
• Give you opportunity to travel (and nothing more) – we want our interns to contribute to the society and meanwhile develop themselves personally and professionally.
• Contain only simple tasks like e.g. preparing coffee and doing the photocopies of documents – the definition of an internship in AIESEC says that it has to be a learning experience for both: intern and the company.

Can I specify a company I would like to have an internship in?

Candidates can state their preferences. It is better when a candidate is open for new opportunities, than focused on one company or country. We want to provide you with the best learning experience, which sometimes means that we will offer you an internship in a country, you have never ever thought about. But at the end of the day you will realize that it was the best experience of your life! The more flexible you are (in terms of starting and ending dates, duration, and destination) the bigger will be pool of internships for you to apply for!

Will I receive a salary during my internship?

It is usual for professional internships to be paid in a manner that allows you to cover the living costs in the destination country. For the issue-based internship you will be usually provided with accommodation and/or food or an allowance enough to cover all those expenses.

How much do I have to pay for such an internship?

According to the Go Exchange! package you choose, the exchange participation fee is RM 400 for an issue-based internship and RM 600 for a professional based. CISCO Go exchange program is under the category of a technical internship.

The fee includes:
• Cost of one time Exchange participant review board
• Administration fee occurs during your matching process and preparation process

The fee does not include:
• Your passport
• Your visa and emigration related fee (varies depending on destination)
• Flight ticket
• Travel cost

What kind of contract will I have to sign?

There will be an exchange participant contract that you are obligated to. For further information about the contract, please contact us.

Do I receive a refund if I cannot find a suitable internship?

If you are a bit flexible concerning place, time and job description, there should not be a problem in finding an interesting internship. However, if you cannot find any, refunding is subjected to term and condition in the exchange participant contract. Those who accept an internship and cancel without giving strong reasons are excluded from our program without any refund. Such a regulation is necessary if we want to be fair towards everyone and because the organization or company concerned was prepared to receive the intern.

What is an exchange participant review board (EPRB)?

The EPRB is an interview during which we want to find out whether you are suitable to our program, how you perceive of foreign countries, and whether your English skills are sufficient. This is important because we guarantee a certain quality and certain competencies when we send students to work in our partner companies.

Who will help me in my host country?

All the internships are based on a local committee nearby, which is there to help you during your internship. More concretely, the members of this local committee organize your accommodation, pick you up from the airport / station, show you around in the city and accompany you to work on your first day. In addition, they will integrate you into their activities, organize events for you and the other interns and help you get to know the people and culture of your host country. There is always one to help you should there be any problems, if not in the host then certainly in the home country. We will keep in contact with you and support you in every possible way.

What began in 1948 as an organisation to help develop "friendly relations" between member countries is now a global association with activities in 107 different countries and territories.

The founding members of AIESEC started to build the organization between 1946 - 1948, but a clear identity was defined in 1948 and later in 1949 at the Stockholm Congress.

In the coming years more and more countries joined the network and AIESEC became global in a very short period by being present on all the continents.

Seminars were first introduced as part of trainees' reception experiences, in a proposal from AIESEC in Germany in 1961. It was well received by other countries, and a general set of seminar topics to be addressed was proposed and accepted. They were mainly economic in nature, and for the first time AIESEC was addressing specific issues in its activities-stated clearly in a non-political way.

In 1976 an International Theme Programme was established that focused all international, regional, and local seminars on specific topics. This idea continued and grew through various stages.

After this the focus of the organization was on addressing global themes besides the traditional Exchange Program. Themes like International Trade, Management Education, Sustainable development, Entrepreneurship and Corporate Responsability were discussed at local, national and global seminars.

Looking for more relevance, nowadays AIESEC is the international platform for young people to discover and develop their potential. Our innovative approach to developing young people focuses on taking a proactive role, developing self-awareness and a personal vision, building networks, and developing capacity to drive change. We do this through an international platform of opportunities that provides over 10,000 leadership opportunities, 10,000 work abroad opportunities, 470 conferences, and virtual tools to build networks.

Annual Tree Planting Campaign by Global Environment Centre

GEC is a non-profit NGO, established in 1998 to address key environmental issues. GEC is based in Malaysia and supports activities worldwide. We are focused on bringing together all parties—individuals, communities, corporations and other like-minded organizations—to help foster lasting change for environmental benefits.

Fundamentally, we are an eclectic bunch of sustainability specialists and strategists. GEC has been a strong voice for the environment through a series of core programs: a) Forest and Biodiversity Programme, b) Peatland Programme c) River Care Programme d) Outreach and Partnership Programme

Annual Tree Planting Campaign at Raja Musa Forest Reserve

Since 2008, GEC had managed to rally more than 2,000 volunteers for the numerous tree planting events that has taken place at this site. So far about 30,000 tree seedlings have been planted in an area covering some 60 hectares, with various stakeholders and corporate partners’ support.

The first objective of the replanting is to stop peatland fires and haze and help prevent global warming and create forest cover which further prevents encroachment into the forest, thus reducing the risk of fire. This activity was created to provide hands-on experience on conservation and a great opportunity to explore and to know better the importance and function of the Raja Musa Forest Reserve.

This year tree planting program is being sponsored by HSBC Bank Malaysia. As a Project Partner, HSBC is providing positive support for the cause of protecting and rehabilitating the peatland for the purpose of protecting the environment and enhancing the well-being of the local communities and educating the younger generation in understanding the values of the peatland. HSBC is not only providing the monetary contribution but also be involved actively in some aspects of the project as part of its CSR requirements.

Red Alert Conference

Hey YOUth,

Hope you guys are feeling excited about Red Alert Conference happening this Sunday, 26th September 2010 at 8am at Faculty of Medicine and Health Science.

The delegate's fee is RM18 per person including breakfast and lunch. Since we are also doing this for charity so a part of the fees will be donated to the HIV/AIDS shelters.

It will be a fun-filled event and at the same time getting more exposure to global issues like HIV/AIDS. We have amazing facilitators from Greece, Germany, Hungary, Vietnam and even local facilitators. We also have NGOs like Pink Triangle Foundation and Malaysian AIDS Council participating in this event. In addition, we also have international delegates.

Lin Hui Keow, the director of Cultural Night 2010. Her first words in her speech was Good Morning. Lol.
Nevertheless it was an event not to be missed.

We would also like to thank Dr Abu Sofian, advisor of AIESEC who grace our event and enlighten us with an opening speech. I believe he too had fun and stay throughout the whole night. He even spend his time in every booth and talk to every intern. We are very grateful that our advisor are able to see what we're doing.

We started of with intern from China, who presents about her love for arts and language. She clearly is very very proud of her 5000 years of Chinese history. Bei Hai park, she says is the place where she met her first love. So for those of you who wants to find love, visit Bei Hai park. Who knows?...

Next we had Maria from Poland. "We like to be on time and we have very good transportation system." Regretfully, Malaysians are almost the total opposite. We have a short video of the Hakka dance in New Zealand, Binai explaining about her Indonesian culture with.... countless ethnics. Most interesting is the question and answer session by Alexia from Taiwan. She truly is made in Taiwan. But one must definately remember not to try out the Vegemite in Australia because according to Irini our Gaga look alike, it s***s. And last but not least Katherina from Portugal who made a good impression about Portugals and their ability to solve problems.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning when members of AIESEC Malaysia gathered in Taylors University College to determine the future of this organisation.

Our Local Committee President, Mr Lim Wai Leong was early for his election. He is one of the 9 who has taken up the challenge to embrace more responsibility.

" I like this qoute from Benjamin Button, the movie. It says We come into this world with nothing and we leave this world with nothing."

It's cruel and true. But this only means that we're meant to grab every opportunity and strive for the very best. Because what lasts is the legacy of your journey and the people you've touched.

For most of us, this election brings back memories. We are inspired by these 9 people to do more. We felt their wants and needs. We are enlightened by their ideas and thoughts. We are inspired by their vision and values.

It's times like these that makes us feel that it's not enough to stay in our comfort zone. If we could move further or higher, we'll reap bigger and juicier fruits.

When the announcement of the vote was conducted, 6 out of 9 made it through. We wish them all the best in their future undertakings. 6 of them will go through interviews and on the Friday 29th Jan 2010 at 9pm, official announcement will be made.

3月初，甫回鄰國念大三心理學系的小女兒撥了電話回來，稟告將申請到非洲去實習。
非洲？遠在大海另一邊，一個在我印象中，和戰亂、饑荒、貧窮、疾病、風沙劃上等號的土地？為甚麼不選擇比較先進的亞洲國家？

“媽媽，這些亞洲國家，以後我出來工作了，隨時都可以去。而非洲大陸，趁我還是AIESEC*的會員，申請過去實習比較容易。媽媽，我在大一的時候，就已下定決心，以後如果要實習，非洲肯定是首選！我想去看看那片土地很久了！”電話那一頭的聲調，篤定中有堅持。

3月中的一個晚上，先生在接一通電話：“飛機票4000多……還不是直達班機……從吉隆坡飛到泰國曼谷……再轉機到肯尼亞內羅畢，然後呢？再轉飛喀麥隆的雅溫得……甚麼？32個小時的航程，那麼久啊？你確定要去那邊嗎？你媽好像很不放心，你要跟媽媽談談嗎？”
我在電話旁擺擺手，表示不想說話。

原來，一切都在悄悄地進行──最經濟的航班機票都打聽好了；地理環境、文化習俗都一一了解了；該註射的預防針也都問個清楚了，看來她是一心一意要到非洲去了！原來，抱負和理想是可以使一個人義無反顧地勇敢作出決定；原來，年輕的心是可以獨立把事情處理得無後顧之慮，我還有甚麼更強的理由阻擾她遠遊的決心？

女兒實習的目標就鎖定在非洲的喀麥隆，一個如果不是她申請過去實習，我這一輩子恐怕也不會認識，更不會去瞭解的國家。這一趟遠遊一去就是12週，整整的84天哪！我的心弦不由得拉緊。
當天晚上，輾轉難眠。我在家人都入寢的深夜里，悄悄打開書櫥，找出了世界地圖，翻開非洲那一頁，終於找到了喀麥隆這個國家！它位於非洲左邊凹進去的腰桿上，與馬來西亞的時差為7個小時。它有250個族群，250種語言，流行語言為法語和英語……於是，我打開手機，發了一封簡訊飛越長堤：媽媽已清楚知道你即將實習的地方。日後你在喀麥隆，媽媽對你的思念，也有個明確的地點了！

臨出發到非洲，她趁週末回來。我們一起在廚房有一句沒一句地聊。“媽媽，我將要去的地方，可能比你童年住的鄉下還要落後。我的AIESEC朋友電郵過來，給我描述了關於那兒的生活樣貌。”

“那你還有勇氣過去？”

“體驗啊！我總覺得那塊土地，有一股魔力悄悄地吸引我。”她臉上閃一股堅強的篤定。臨行密密縫，我縫的不是衣服，而是歐元和美鈔。女兒說那兒換錢不太方便，因此把兌換的錢都縫進身上穿的口袋裡。我拿出抄好的一張佛經交給她，囑她收在貼身皮包里。
“帶它吧！是媽媽的祝福，也是讓媽媽放心的護身符！”

媽，你就以祝福代替牽掛吧！
除了這樣，我還能以怎樣的方式讓自己處於安心的階段──在這近乎三個月的日子裡？“媽媽，你就不要替我擔心了！10年前我小學畢業，你都放心讓我獨自往返新馬兩地，怎麼10年後你卻那麼擔憂呢？放心吧，在那兒等待我的朋友都是去年國際大會上見過面的！”

能不擔心嗎？一個我完全陌生的國度，她又是孑然一身前往。我的擔心源自於我對那片陌生國土的一無所知啊！
大女兒輕輕地安慰我說：“當年我遠赴台灣留學，你不是因證嚴法師的一句話‘對子女，要放心，不要操心’而放下對我的牽掛嗎？你就以祝福代替牽掛吧！”

女兒出國後的日子，讀電子郵件和回複郵件開始成了我生活的一部份。喀麥隆的生活儘管清貧赤苦，但在字裡行間卻不曾看到一個“苦”字。只覺得她甘之如飴，日子過得怡然自得。
我在她的文字和圖片中去認識和瞭解喀麥隆；通過文字，即使天涯也咫尺。絞緊的心弦逐漸鬆弛在時光嬗遞中。

距離她回國前的一個月，我在報上讀到她的第一篇遊記。文章結束前她寫：飛機起飛時，我看漸漸變小的吉隆坡，心裡默默地向它道別，向馬來西亞道別，向家人朋友道別，向自己的熟悉感道別。不安、恐懼、興奮、刺激全湧了上來。去了，就得3個月後才能回來。自己是怎麼樣都要活過三個月才能回來的。”

我的眼眶一下子充滿了淚水。當天晚上，啟動電腦，我打下給她的電郵：如果你是大鵬鳥，就帶你的理想展翅高飛吧！舊巢里，永遠有最愛你、祝福你、守候你平安歸來的雙親！

What Have We Done In Quarter 3 (Part 1)

Bazaar

We started off our term with UPM Bazaar for new students. It has gone well. We manage to get hundreds contacts with the help of some convincing speeches and materials. I guess those who were there will definitely remember repeating your speech for almost 2 hours. Tiring, but interesting; something new. I would like to thank those who have helped in the preparation and who have been there to help out in the recruitment. Special thanks to Chin Chin, Amanda and Sin Ying for their hard work preparing Bazaar. Not forgetting Eve Lynn for getting some file and bookmark sponsor.

AIESEC Night

AIESEC Night is the first event for talent marketing. An event with intensive preparation and promotion. Once again I would like to thank those who were there to help out, especially TM (Chin Chin, Amanda and Sin Ying) and Comm (Shin). I do understand that there are much to be done, from getting posters and flyers done to getting approval for booth and communicating with potential members. It was an interesting night with the presence of new students, representative from other Local Committee as well as Member Committee, the Dutch Ambassadors, seniors and not forgetting our interns. Though it may not be a smooth run in the preparation, once again the event turns out pretty well. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Lai Peng for helping in coordinating the AIESEC Night.

Nesh Swishing Party

Next up in the list is the Nesh Swishing Party. This is an event by Nesh and AIESEC represented by LC UPM, LC UM and LC TUC; partly to promote on environmental awareness. The one day event was held in Tropicana City Mall. AIESEC UPM exhibited on various traditional costumes in and out of Malaysia. Ping Fen did a great job in making sure everything goes well in our part. There are also country presentations by some of AIESEC interns in Malaysia.

Train the Trainer

A workshop is conducted by AIESEC UPM trainers, Soon Kit, Maha, Wai Leong, Lai Peng, Chloe, Elaine and Cheryl (trained by Mr. Soo Ren Chang from Deloitte, Jamie Goh of Monier; alumni of AIESEC UPM, and Jasmine Low from Reckitt Benckiser, alumni of AIESEC UM). The purpose to the workshop is to train participants on training and facilitating skills, which is a vital element in AIESEC. The two day workshop includes sessions like communication barrier, environmental setting, Multiple Intelligence, learning style and many more. Those who have completed the TtT are Sin Ying, Chin Chin, Amanda, Ru Wei, Shin, Wei Heng and Jin Long (Report to me for any missing of names). Congratulations!

Global Village (International Congress 2009)

This is a really big event for AIESEC in Malaysia, and AIESEC worldwide. Representative from 107 countries were here in Palace of the Golden Horses, Malaysia to showcase their countries, cultures and traditions. It is the biggest Global Village of the year for AIESEC. It is indeed “Round the World in 60 minutes”. I am really happy that some of AIESECers from UPM were there to gain some exposure and see the global network of AIESEC with your own eyes.

International Congress 2009 (Opening Ceremony)

The opening ceremony of International Congress was also held in Palace of the Golden Horses. Some of the key speeches were from the Member Committee President of AIESEC Malaysia, Cafrey Ma, Congress Committee President, Geralynn Wong, and President of AIESEC International, Aman Jain. There were also presentation and performances during the ceremony. Again, it was really an exposure watching the opening ceremony of AIESEC’s biggest conference together with over 600 delegates and guests. It was really good.

International Congress 2009 (Warna Warni Malaysia)

Warna Warni Malaysia is an event in IC 2009 that showcases the varieties of cultures in Malaysia to over 500 delegates from 107 countries. It includes exhibitions of costumes, food and games. Again it involves most Local Committees in Malaysia. Thanks to Syi Huey and friends for making sure things went well for AIESEC UPM to play its part.

Local Leadership Development Seminar (LLDS)

LLDS 2009 in Port Dickson! LLDS is meant to further induct potential members to AIESEC as well as personal development of potential members. Although LLDS 09 has a very low participation, I am very happy and impress with the determination and spirit of the team in making the decisions to go on with the conference and giving much effort in making the conference a good one. Seeing the new management team taking up the responsibilities and running sessions during the conference gave me the sense of joy seeing how have they develop throughout the year. We also get to know the team better with a team 360 evaluation as well as with the help of some senior track sessions conducted by Brandon, Chloe, Soon Kit and Maha. Thanks.

I would also like to give recognition to everyone that gives much effort in making LLDS a good one, again, especially Chin Chin, Sin Ying and Amanda. I am aware that it was tough, things was not as smooth as you thought it would be, but you guys made it through well.

Psychological Type Workshop

Our alumni, Mr. Soo Ren Chang did a Psychological Type Workshop for AIESEC UPM Management Team. The workshop is on the Type assessment (MBTI). Ren Chang is an expert in this matter. The workshop emphasizes on getting to know ourselves better, understanding differences, accepting differences and utilizing differences. We are also exposed to the ways of communicating with a certain type of individuals; in which will strongly help in our communication skills. We have also analyzed on our team type and how AIESEC UPM Management team behaves in general.

Cultural Night

LC UPM had a Cultural Night promoting on AIESEC Go Exchange Program (GEP). It is our OGX initiative to increase the awareness as well as interest of students of UPM in going for an international internship to experience something different and memorable. I appreciate OGX effort, especially Eevon in making it happen as well as everyone else who have helped and participated. It was something new in the LC, and we will be doing another big one!

AIESEC Internships Foster Understanding and Improve Students' Marketability

Because the current job market is filled to overflowing with talented entry level job seekers, it has become increasingly necessary for candidates to find ways to stand out in a positive way from their competition. One way to do that is by participating in an international internship.

Organizations like AIESEC (pronounced eye-sik) can facilitate a student's efforts to find an internship oversees. Though not the only one its kind, AIESEC is the largest student-run global internship organization with 35,000 student members in 107 countries, including the United States.

Established in 1948, AIESEC, which was once an anagram of the organization's a French phrase that roughly translated into International Association of Students in Economics and Commerce, believed that helping people from different cultures to gain a better understanding of each other would decrease the likelihood of the recurrence of world war.

Unlike other international internship programs, AIESEC allows students to become fully immersed in the culture of their host country, learning not only the language, but the customs and business practices as well.

"The internship program is only one stage of the development process they're trying to take students through," said Andrew King, an alumnus of the AIESEC program who works full time in the organization's business development office. King works with companies to create internship programs for AIESEC's student members.

Some of the companies that currently participate in AIESEC are Microsoft, DHL, UBS, HSBC and InBev, the international beverage company that recently acquired Anheuser-Busch.

There are two primary benefits for students who participate in programs like AIESEC, says King, and they are:
1. Membership in AIESEC helps develop skills like
      •leadership
      •ethics
      •accountability

It encourages students to become "change agents," to "make a positive impact on society," said King, who spent a year in Beijing, China, during what would have been his junior year of college, in 2006.

2. Because the program is structured, students receive a higher level of service than they might if they found their international internship through their campus career services office.

For example, when King went to China, his counterparts in Beijing had been responsible for developing his internship, meeting him at the airport when he arrived, showing him around the city and helping him to gain a better understanding of Chinese people, their culture and their society.

"There's worry about our place in the global competitiveness and economy, that we're falling behind," explained King, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison earlier this year. "[So], not only does [AIESEC membership] have the social benefits of promoting world peace, but it will also make U.S. students more competitive. Students need to know how business is conducted in other countries."

Of course, there are other pluses to an AIESEC international internship. Students who speak more than one language are more valuable because they can not only communicate with colleagues, but with customers and clients, too.

The only criteria for membership in AIESEC are open mindedness, willingness to learn about another country and an understanding that culture shock is inevitable. Students who join AIESEC are also expected to be "self starters with entrepreneurial spirits, who will be good ambassadors for the United States," said King.

Membership isn't limited to business or international relations majors. It's open to students of all majors who are curious about how business in other countries is conducted and how the people live and work on a day-to-day basis.

"There's something about going to another country and meeting the people that lessens the chance of future conflict and promotes personal development as students learn to cope with the difficulties of adjusting to a different culture," King concluded.

Finding the right entry level job after graduation is tough for many recent graduates, primarily because the competition is so tough. Participation in an international internship program through organizations like AIESEC could be what sets 2010 graduates apart. They will have experienced other cultures and, like King, they will also have matured beyond their years, which will definitely make them stand out during interviews.

           I NEVER dare to dream that I will go to other country for an exchange. NEVER! During the year of 2006, when I came across a booth at bazaar, there is a long queue there. It was named A-I-E-S-E-C. All those internship pictures caught my attention, I wanted to sign up, but there is long queue thus, I lazy to sign up. My faith with AIESEC is very strong as I ended up participating in AIESEC activities in my year 2 of university.

           I’d decided to go for exchange, as I still can remember vividly Ren Chang’s presentation during NLDS my year, his last slide impacts me and encourage me to go for exchange. From that moment onwards, I told myself, I will go for exchange. When I was on the plane, I never dare to think that I’m on the way to TAIWAN for life changing experience. Reality becoming more obvious when I reach Tao Yuan International Airport where the AIESECer in Taiwan wave banners with our names on it high enough to be read by us. My first day in Taiwan was started by watching beautiful scenery of Yang Min Shan night view and Shih Lin night market.

           I’m doing Development Traineeship by teaching in English under AIESEC CLLC at Lao Mei Elementary School. It is situated at the North of Taiwan, at Shih Men Township, which is around 40 minutes to Danshuei Township. My first sight of Lao Mei Elementary School, wow! It’s big and colourful. I find out that their English education system is different than ours. They use phonetic symbols, while ours is basically memorizing the word. Thus, I find it unique and I learn together with them as well. As the saying goes, Learning is never ending.

          The most interesting class I ever attended is making kite class. I went to the class twice, and we flew with the kite we made. I’m very excited as I never fly kite before, what more now flying the kite we made ourselves. The one that I learnt also can fly indoor, which means without wind! Besides that, I have joined cooking classes held in the school. According to them, the cooking class will held for a month, for every school semester. The attendees are the mothers of the students. Through all these classes, the bonds between parents and the school are strengthened. There are many more activities that I had experienced in Development Traineeship.

           If I had a chance to go for DT again, I won’t mind to go again. This opportunity is hard to find, but YOU are lucky, YOU find it here, AIESEC!!

AIESEC NITE kicked off with mini Global Village (GV).. Our interns from China, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and United Kingdom gave us locals, a sneak peak of their respective countries through interesting presentations!

Hordes of people turn up as early as 7pm for registration! Great turn-out this year..A good start for a great year…

After the newbies were ushered into the hall, the national and university anthem, Negaraku and Putra Gemilang respectively were sung followed by prayers by Imran. Then,Mr. Lim Wai Leong, our LCP addresses the new recruits for the very first time. He talked about metamorphosis and how a person can grow through AIESEC. Hmm..deep..Next up was LCs, Alumni’s and MC’s introduction time! Representatives from TUC, UKM, UM, USM, UUM and the ever cool MC’s came with interesting roll calls to boot. After that, some AIESEC cultures were introduced such as slow down, louder, etc.

Next up, Ice breaking time! Then, a multimedia presentation on AIESEC global network was presented. Nard and Rutger, the Dutch Ambassadors rocked the house with their country presentation. Then, the highlight of the day- the Turtle Cycle! It’s basically a 3 station rotation where recruits will get to know more about international internship, international conference and ceedership.

Chloe also shared her story of how AIESEC changed her life and the experiences she gained along the way. The night ended with promotion and registration for FLY Conference, the much anticipated upcoming event. The night had come to an end but the next dawn signifies a new day, a new change for a greater LC UPM!!!

National Convention Output

DAY 1

The opening plenary was started by the song "satu suara", which means "one voice" which is the official song for AIESEC in Malaysia this term. This is because AIESEC Malaysia wants all the Local Committee (LC) which is UPM , UM, UKM, USM, UUM and TUC to be united, and together, we strive for excellence.

Then, we started off with the introduction of the new elected Member Committee (MC). And in this term there will be a MC from Poland!!

After the introduction, there is a LC Showcase which is a session for all the Local Committee President (LCP) to explain and summarize what happened last year and their achievements.Then, the SWOT (Strength, Weaknessess, Opportunities, Threat) analysis of the overall LC in Malaysia and the introduction on the AIESEC National Initiatives.

GradMalaysia.com came in right before our lunch and gave away their magazines as they are the partner of AIESEC MALAYSIA. After the lunch was IM Fadli session, which was the MCVPIM (Member Committee Vice President of Information Management).Together with Brandon, the MCVPComm (Member Committee Vice President of Communication), they explained and clarified on the usage of various online tools and how Communication and Information Management department work together.

DAY 2

It started off with opening plenary and recap of what had happened on the first day!

After that, We were separated into our own functional areas for further education and planning. And we had planned for almost 4 hours....

After dinner, it was legistration fair, which was basically a preparation session for tomorrow AGM & Legistration.

DAY 3

It was a photo session in the morning, and then as usual, it was opening plenary. After that was AGM & Legistration - in which we have motions to be passed and be included in the Compendium of AIESEC in Malaysia...

During AGM & Legistration we had the chance to meet the previous leaders of the National AIESEC team MC 0809 - James, Jai Singh, Daryl, Mei Shan, Emily, Enki, and Jasmine as they reviewed the report for their respective department.

After dinner was the Sunday Night!! AIESEC UPM managed to be the finalis for sculling, and this was our very first time to be the top two!! ^^

DAY 4

As usual we had morning plenary.Then was the planning and consolidaion plan explanation for us to brainstorm new ideas. After that was LC Time and LC Output for every LCs VPs(Vice President) and managers to discuss and understand each department roles and jobs description. And the last sessions for today was Gala Dinner! (I think you all know what is that!!)

DAY 5

It was the last day for NATCON. After morning plenary, it was LC Expansion session. Alif, MCVP Expansion, explained to us about how projects in AIESEC can actually help AIESEC to expand in terms of network, partners, etc. And the very last session was Motivation, whcih was prepared by Fazli. In this session, we watch a video showing what we want to achieve in our lives, and the relevence of joining AIESEC with our lives.

National Convention is a national level conference held by AIESEC Malaysia annually. And this year, National Convention 2009 was held in UKM, from the 12th-18th June. This convention gathers all Executive Board (EB) members of AIESEC Malaysia to come and meet together so as to set national goals and plans for their coming term. Delegates of NatCon will be equipped with necessary management skills and AIESEC knowledge to assist them in the management of their respective local committees.

DAY 1
Opening plenary is started by Serena once all the AIESECC members from LCUPM, LCUM, LCUKM, LCUUM, LCUTM, and LCTUC reached YMCA wich is located in Ipoh. After the energy-filled opening plenary, Cafrey introduced us a session on the AIESEC Way. Next, we had a review session presented by James which showcased how AIESEC Malaysia had been performing for the entire term.

Through the explanation by James, we realized that AIESEC Malaysia had experienced lots of growth in the term 2008/2009. To date, the exchange number is 232 [Realized + Matched]. 22 more matches to achieve 254!

On the night of the first day, there was Friday Night Fever!(Friday Night Fever is a session where all the LC have to prepare a square dance for their own LCs besides dancing together.The main aim of this competition is not only let all the members to have fun while they brainstorm to do planning for 3 days, but also is a good opportunity to bond all the members within or between LCs.) And congratulation to LCUSM who won the square dance competiton.

DAY 2
We started of the day with a telematch game. There are 7 cool activities which are Bird Nest, Mr. Bean, Country Puzzle, Show Me What You Got, Pass The Spell, Table Manner and Keep It Moving. All the games have underneath meanings. Then it was of to the brainstorming session to come up with the National Vision and National Focus Area. The next half of the day was the Education Block where we were separated according to various functional areas. The sessions were presented by the respective MCVPs.

DAY 3
The final day was sessions with presentation of the new Balanced Scorecard by Khai Lun. Afther that is all the Q & A sessions and also overview on upcoming events. After the NPC was ended, the energetic LCUPM went to visit the nearby caves. Haha.

National Pioneers Conference 2009 is a yearly conference by AIESEC in Malaysia. It's a about AIESEC Knowledge. It's about National Planning. It's about Bonding.

AIESEC Knowledge. Do you think that you know everything about AIESEC? You might heard of AIESEC Way, or AIESEC 2010 or Balance Score Card. But how much do you actually understand on that? Do you want to know more about the organization you are in? Or do you think knowing a bit here and there is sufficient?

National Planning. Planning that involve and affect all LC's in AIESEC Malaysia. You are part of it. You will be able to see a bigger picture of what you are doing in LC level and how it is contributing to the growth of AIESEC Malaysia. Don't constraint yourself only in the LC. See more of where are those initiatives come from.

Bonding. Not only with your own teammates. It's bonding with other LC in Malaysia and also the MC. Meet new elects both from the LC and MC. Get to know more people. You guys are always talking about sense of belongingness. It won't come to you! Take intiative to look for it. Based on experiences, conferences are the best time for bonding Imagine if you miss all conferences and you go around telling people "Hey in AIESEC, I don't feel the sense of belongingness. People are hard to mingle with. I have no friends!" Do you think that is YOUR problem to a certain extent?

Think about it....

Maha's Internship Story in India

My name is Maha and this is my AIESEC story.

I have been in AIESEC for close to 2 years and have just returned from an internship in India. This internship has proven to be the most intense AIESEC experience I have been on so far. The opportunities that were offered along the way of this internship proved that AIESEC internships are really life changing and a learning experience never to be forgotten.

The internship was based on the HIV/AIDS issue and I got to interact with children and university students from different backgrounds to bring about awareness and further educate them. It was definitely not easy as there were many challenging barriers such as cultural sensitivity and language.

Nonetheless with the correct motivation and enthusiasm that my international team and I had, we managed to pull through and all those hardship moments proved to be best learning experiences in this internship of mine. Whether it was between team members or the protective culture that India has, the hard work was really worth it and at the end of the day really satisfying.

I guess the question now is whether you are up for the challenge? I move out from my comfort zone, reach out to people around you, service global issues, live in different conditions and most importantly be a Change Agent.

After Thought- japanese Study Tour

This Study tour did not come easily. Mai and Elaine took great effort and time to sort things out, to arrange and organize way before the study tour started. They had hard time looking for companies, NGO, making calls and so on. Obviously, language was a barrier and that did not deter them to make things happen.

Thanks to this two determined girls, we had a great experience together. * Roll Call X 3*

So, I wish to express my utmost gratitude and appreciation to Elaine and Mai. Unforgetable experience does not come easily, but we sometimes just do not appreciate things that come too easily, right?

Thanks to my team members, you know who you are =) The study tour would not be realized if there were only Elaine and me. Without everyone contributing to it, getting your hands dirty, going on ground to do it, skipping your lunch, spending money from your pocket and making sacrifices and concious choices to make your busy life busier, it would not be such a great experience we had together.

When our LC AG members left, I felt the lost. When Kaiser and Sk said last time in Diana :" I miss them, feel the lost". I could not agree more. I felt happy and proud at the same time too, seeing we ejoyed and learnt a lot in such a short intense one week. That put a flash of smile on my face. =)

A little more, ok?

I realise the few days before our Japanese friends arrived, the atmosphere was a little... tensed. Probably it was during test two week, everyone was swapped with loads of AIESEC work, study and personal life. We were a little reluctant and did not seem to anticipate much ( a personal observation, correct me if I am wrong). There was a point I questioned myself

" am I a good leader?"
" is my team demotivated? "
" How do I make everyone communicate better with each other ?"

... many thoughts were running in the head.

And the week went on with some hiccups too, like going to the wrong LRT station, miscommunication and etc. I have a fear, that this might hurt the team synergy. I know I might not be the best leader around, I have so much more to pick up, but I love my team. Seeing them demotivated and frustrated is the last thing I wish to happen.

I am really glad that everyone is talking about our Japanese friends, sharing our experiences and laughing at them during Mamak and facebook. Memerising the fun and laughters. IT was sweet and sour. I am just glad and proud.

When I did a self reflection, I realized I learnt a lot.

10 things I learn and I wish to share:

1) Opportunity only come once, most of the time. We make the concious decision to grab it, or let it go. I realize even if you involve in the next Japanese study tour, it will feel different. (ask Hui Ying).

2) Experience is the best teacher. I realize the more we do, the more we involve, the more mistakes and hardship we undertook, the more unique is the experience. And we tend to cherish it more. One year down the road, ask a person who only meet the Japanese in the AIESEC Gathering and a person who spent the whole week with them. The same week, the same LC, the same opportunity but a totally different story.

3) What doesn't kill you, make you stronger. We will not die in AIESEC, but have we tried to push the limit? We will never, never know how much we can achieve, how far we can go, if we dont ...push. You will only grow stronger.

4) There is always a lesson to learn ( and there is always a little bit more that we can do ). When you see the sky is the limit, the sky is the limit. When you think the rainbow is black and white, a colourful sky will turn monochrome. Innitiative is a weird thing, not nessesery to have it, but the one who have it, usually win.

5) Trust. I see that in the Japanese AIESECers. Trust and team synergy. When you fly miles acorss the sea, to an unknown region, doing something you never tried before, trust and commitment keep you moving. It is a reality that human can walk on the moon and dive in the deepest sea, but behind each breakthrough, there is a team. Team is about helping each other, it is about us and ours ; not mine and yours.

6) What comes around, goes around. This is Kaiser's favourite quote. I learnt that if you give out 100%, you normally get back 102 %. And interestingly, the two % interests usually come when you least expect it. Help if I wished to be given a hand.

7) Gratefulness. I learnt from the Japanese AIESECer. Thank you, deep bow, smiles and sincerity. Let it be their upbringing or simply just a Japanese culture, I love it and I appreciate it. I remember the time when I am suppose to meet them at Plaza Rakyat at 3pm, being a typical Malaysian, I was late for 40 minutes. Feeling bad and guilty, their gratefulness and appreaciation eased my heart. And I told myself I am going to do more for them today, as a friend.

8) Self awareness. A trip to the National Autism Centre, although i did not raise them successfully, I learnt a new lesson. Being grateful to be born as a normal individual. Seeing the sacrifices and dedication of the parents and volunteers in the centre, I questioned myself, "Have I done enough?" Yesterday, during the member selection interview, one of them said " respect is about having high post and being well paid." Is it?

9) Communication. I learnt that I actually did not communicate that well and sometimes, I am headstrong. Thanks for telling me, you know who you are. ;)

10) Be firm with what you believe in. Do not be shaken if you believe you are doing it for the betterment and benefits of all. No one believe Thomas Edisson can create light, and he told the world he did, only after 3000 times of trial.

Even if it was a ten cents effort, it is still an effort. Thanks!

1) What is Communication department about?

The Communication department form in the first place is to clearly branding and consistently positioning AIESEC to UPM student and even to public. Communication department involve in engaging AIESEC stake holder (member, sponsor, TN taker and etc) with AIESEC.

2) What is the job description if I join this department

I. Running I’m an AIESECer campaign consistently and also effectively.

II. Develop a communication plan

III. Alumni Engagement

IV. Make sure everything that deliver by Local committee are brand align with AIESEC International

V. Profiling AIESECer to inspire other member to live with AIESEC experiences and
